Rachenna recently received an honorary doctorate from a national university in recognition of his long contribution to India’s native seeds. He has conserved over 300 varieties and has received numerous awards for his work. “This is my contribution to the movement for seed sovereignty and against transnational corporations patents on seeds,” he said. He is an old member of the farmer’s movement and Amrita Bhoomi. We invited him with his family to an ongoing youth training session and celebrated his great contributions. His young son Abhi too is a great seed saver now and joins us for various training.
